LeadUP! Andrea DeWitt

In this LeadUP! episode, Dr. Kathryn Bingham and author Andrea DeWitt talk about her new book, Name, Claim & Reframe and how individuals can step into their power, their potential, and their truth. Both the book and Andrea’s own story offer potent encouragement to people who seek to empower their own leadership and engage with grace. And she’s a great example of the pivot.

“Well, I will start by saying, I just turned 60 in 2022. And I say that I am proof that it is never too late and you are not too old to live your dream because I’m living mine now.”~Andrea DeWitt

Andrea’s describes her major pivot from 30+ years of academia into life coaching. Her quote, above, assures us that it’s NEVER too late to make a significant life/work transition. The lessons from her life and second career offer color to the Name, Claim & Reframe system and why it’s important. At it’s core, the framework invites the reader to:

  • Name – obstacles, triggers, and things holding a person back,
  • Claim – choosing resonant actions that match up with his or her core values, and
  • Reframe – shift perspective on the issue to allow moving forward.

Andrea shares a model to help with recognizing “above the line” vs “below the line” behavior and shifting actions as needed to be successful. Above the line, behaviors source from positive strengths. Below the line, we are reacting from a place of woundedness or protection with behavior skewing toward a negative bias.

Other key topics covered in the interview:

  • Identifying our own and other people’s “energy” and knowing when it’s time to acknowledge “not my circus, not my monkeys.”
  • The foundation of core values, and why we need to revisit values that may have been sourced from a false identity. [Example: how values sourced from having to be the “good girl” plays out into adulthood and in workplaces and why those may need to change. Example: rebranding to align with a changing identity; the impact of being our more authentic self.]
  • Andrea’s new coaching program (aligning with skills taught in the book).
